The Qualified Licensed Practitioner (QLP) is responsible for conducting assessments and evaluations to determine client eligibility for ABA services. A comprehensive diagnostic evaluation must be performed before ABA services can start. The evaluation is a neurodevelopmental review of cognitive, behavioral, emotional, adaptive, and social functioning using validated evaluation tools. Based on the evaluation, a practitioner will determine diagnosis, recommend general ASD service options, and refer the child for further ABA behavioral assessment if recommended for the individual. The QLP will work with Autism Centers of Michigan to ensure all payor requirements are being strictly adhered to.
QLP is defined as: a physician with a specialty in psychiatry or neurology, or subspecialty in developmental pediatrics, developmental-behavioral pediatrics or a related discipline; or a physician with a specialty in pediatrics or other appropriate specialty with training, experience or expertise in ASD and/or behavioral health; a psychologist; an advanced practice registered nurse with training, experience, or expertise in ASD and/or behavioral health; a physician assistant with training, experience, or expertise in ASD and/or behavioral health; or a clinical social worker, working within their scope of practice, and is qualified and experienced in diagnosing ASD.
